A Quick Cuppa With…Madeline Mason

Madeline is a retired 67 year old from West Yorkshire.  She is married, a grandmother of 3, and lives up on the hills in Haworth, Bronte Country.  She has two sons who both live abroad, one in Finland and one in Athens.

How long have you been running and why did you start?

Started in 1984 when trying to lose weight but stopped when I started full time work. Started again in 2006 so I could run the first Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K and I have run them all including this year – complete with hamstring injury.

How often do you run?

Three times a week.

What do you listen to when you are running?

Music sent to me from my youngest son, who lives in Athens.  He sends me lots of his favourite music. He runs as well and has just done the Athens Marathon.

How do you stay focused and disciplined?

You must have a goal otherwise you give in!

Other than running what else do you do to keep fit?

All types of exercise and yoga. I have an exercise bike and use that 3 times a week, usually on the days I don’t run.

What is your favourite place to run?

I like to run out over the Moors.  The best run is 7 miles up to Keighley Reservoir,  only one mile but straight up hill.

How long have you been a member of Running4Women?

I’m not really sure but I always enjoy looking at the site.

What do you like most about the site?

Receiving good advice from other lady runners.

What are your goals for the coming year?

To run the Athens Marathon, and to stay injury free. I have had 5 months out this year due to hamstring then Achilles tendon and just do not want any more injuries. So ‘slow but sure’ is now my mantra and who knows, next November, I just may make it.
