Don’t Feel Like Running Today? 5 Tips To Get You Out There!

Motivation can take a hit at this time of year. It’s dark, cold, and your to-do list needs tackling.

If running is the last thing you feel like doing, read this to change your mind!

Action, Not Emotion

Don’t dwell on how you feel. The more you focus on tiredness or stress, the worse you’ll feel. Get on autopilot, lace up your trainers, and head out. Your body knows how to do this. Your brain will catch up within the first half mile.

Remember Your Best Runs

Be honest with yourself, you do actually love running. So remember those runs where everything has felt amazing, your mind and body were working as one, your stride felt great, you felt on top of the world. By going for a run today, you get closer to feeling like that again.

Call A Running Buddy

Turn your training run into a chat with a good friend. You can work off some of your stress by chatting to a buddy, and you won’t let them down by failing to turn up!

Make A Playlist

If you run with music, add a few new songs to your MP3 player. Choose something which fires you up, gives you energy, and makes you smile. Top tip for this time of year: don’t choose Christmas songs!

It’s Just 5 Minutes…

This one always works. Promise yourself that you only need to run for 5 minutes. That’s it. After 5 minutes, you can stop and walk home. But you must get out the door and complete 5 minutes. 9 times out of 10, the endorphins will kick in and you’ll remember why you love running… and before you know it, you’ll have completed your entire training session. And you’ll be so glad you did!
