A Quick Cuppa With…Polyanna

Polyanna is a partner in her family business.  She is 58 years old, married with two grown up children and lives in Devon.

How long have you been running and why did you start?

I have been struggling with my weight ever since my children were born and I also have an under active thyroid. In the summer of 2012 I decided to give the C25K programme a go, at first I couldn’t run 20 paces without stopping but I persevered and managed to complete the programme in 15 weeks but by this time winter was coming and I stopped.

Then in April 2013 I joined my local running club who were running a beginners’ 10 week running course. I really enjoyed going and after the 10 weeks were up I joined the club and now run with the group once a week.

How often do you run?

Four or five times a week.

What do you listen to when you are running?

Radio Devon or Radio 2.

How do you stay focused and disciplined?

By going to my local running club once a week and logging my miles on Running4Women.

Other than running what else do you do to keep fit?

Walking and Cycling.

What is your favourite place to run?

Anywhere there are no hills!

How long have you been a member of Running4Women?

Since May 2013

What do you like most about the site?

It keeps track of mileage, which keeps me on the go.

What are your goals for the coming year?

I am certainly not planning any races but I would like to get down to my target weight and stay there.  I also want to keep running to keep fit but it would be lovely to run 5k in a reasonable time (30m would be great) but I must bear in mind that, before the age of 57, I had never run before and in just over a year’s time I will be 60, so I think it will take a little longer to build up stamina.
