Running And Female Organs
Question:
I have always been intrigued by running, and have dabbled in it a little bit. I would like to get more serious about it, but I have heard that running can affect a woman’s reproductive organs, making it more difficult to get pregnant. Is this true? Are there adverse effects to running?
Answer:
Dear Elizabeth,
Like most sporting activities running has its pros and cons. Lower limb injuries are probably the most common associated with running. However, with regards to its effects on the female fertility there are no major studies to suggest that running is detrimental. If you have any specific concerns I would recommend that you consult your GP/gynaecologist
