A Quick Cuppa With…. Lianne
Lianne is a 42 year old, busy working mum of two teenagers from Surrey and has been married to Julian for nearly 20 years.
How long have you been running and why did you start?
Probably about 10 years now. I had a bit of a health scare back in 2002 and after some pretty gruelling treatment needed to build myself back up. So, my husband bought me my chocolate Labrador Bracken and I started off walking with her, then built up to running with her too.
How often do you run?
I try to run at least 3 or 4 times a week – preferably outside but I’ll take the treadmill if I have to.
What do you listen to when you are running?
Well, this could be a little embarrassing…. But I love Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen, Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves by Annie Lennox and anything that I can sing along to in my head! (I should probably apologise to my kids now!).
How do you stay focused and disciplined?
To be honest if I don’t manage to fit in a run I just don’t feel like “me” – so I try to make sure I get myself out the door most days to do something. Obviously it’s not always possible with the husband and kids but wherever possible I run. I love the way it makes me feel.
Other than running what else do you do to keep fit?
I love to go for long walks with the dog, swim with my daughter Daisy and go for long bike rides with my son Jack and triathlete mad husband. I just really like being outdoors – I’m really partial to a Parkrun too when I can make them.
What is your favourite place to run?
Well, I live in Surrey, not far from the very beautiful Box Hill (although I can’t say I’m always up for hills!) so I like to run around the Surrey countryside. My favourite run was probably in Italy along the Amalfi Coast – the scenery was just stunning and before I knew it we’d run 10K … all the way to the ice cream shop in fact!
What are your goals for the coming year?
To complete at least two 10K’s and a half by next Spring – did I really just say that?!
