Joint Pain


Hi, I completed my first half marathon yesterday. Surprisingly it wasn’t my cardio fitness that let me down but my joints. My knees and my hips started hurting after about 8 miles and today (the day after) I can’t walk properly. Is this ‘joint fitness’ something that will improve as I train more? I’m registered for another half marathon in October and would like to improve my time. Abbey


Dear Abbey,

Sounds like you would benefit from some lower limb strength exercises such as squats and lunges to improve your gluteal and quadriceps strength. Book a consultation with a sports physiotherapist for some more specific advice. Kind regards
