Nike LunarEclipse+ 2: A glove-like fit and plush cushioning

The Nike LunarEclipse+ 2 Women’s Running Shoe delivers a snug, adjustable fit, plush cushioning and stability without stiffness.

Dynamic fit system that tailors the shoe perfectly to your foot

Lunarlon cushioning for reduced weight and enhanced flexibility

Dynamic Support that adapts to your stride for ultimate stability

Fit

The dynamic fit system features soft material ‘fingers’ that wrap the midfoot and arch from under the foot and connect to the laces. They move with the foot as you run for a truly glove-like fit, reducing the space between foot and shoe for total comfort.

Stability

A floating heel support clip (a horseshoe-shaped piece that wraps the perimeter of the heel) offers a snug fit and moves with the foot to help prevent it from rolling too far inward or outward, reducing under- or overpronation. And Dynamic Support in the midsole provides comfortable stability without the added weight or stiffness of a traditional medial post.

Cushioning

Lunarlon cushioning features a soft yet resilient foam core encased within a supportive foam carrier for lightweight, ultra-plush cushioning, springy response and support.

Additional Details

Lightweight mesh upper for breathability

Plush foam collar for comfort and heel lockdown

Reflectivity for enhanced visibility in low light

Flex grooves for enhanced flexibility and a smooth stride

DYNAMIC SUPPORT

The DYNAMIC SUPPORT system sits in the shoe’s midsole and offers on-demand support in response to a runner’s changing needs. It features more soft foam on the lateral side for cushioning on impact and more firm foam on the medial side for support.

The Nike Lunarswift+ 3 Shield: Redefined support and protection

Improving upon the Nike Lunarswift+2 in a number of ways, the Nike Lunarswift+ 3 Shield Women’s Running Shoe features an updated upper with water-resistent mesh and midfoot lock-down. Maintaining the unrivaled cushioning of the original Nike Lunarswift+, this version stays rooted in iconic comfort.

Benefits

•Best for underpronated to moderately overpronated runners
•Seam-free, water-resistent mesh upper for comfort, ventilation and lightweight protection
•Midfoot strap for secure, lock-down fit
•Lunarlon cushioning for a soft, bouncy ride
•Dynamic Support platform for stability when you need it

Design

The Nike Lunarswift+ 3 Shield is made with a seamless mesh upper coated with water-resistant material to maintain maximum comfort and keep elements at bay in poor conditions. A midfoot strap integrates with the laces and wraps behind the heel for excellent all-around support, and a full innersleeve increases comfort and breathability.

Support

The Dynamic Support platform in the midsole responds to a runner’s changing needs. During each run, it adapts to the runner’s stride to provide just the right amount of support. For overpronators, the firmer, wedged carrier foam limits excessive pronation–without adding the weight of a traditional medial post. Neutral runners won’t activate this pronation-control feature, so the Dynamic Support platform will simply feel like a well-cushioned, neutral shoe.

Cushioning

This shoe’s Lunarlon cushioning system is made up of a soft yet resilient foam core, encased in a supportive foam carrier for a lightweight blend of ultra-plush cushioning, springy response and support.

Additional Details

•Environmentally preferred rubber in a Waffle pattern outsole for durability and traction
•Deep flex grooves for enhanced flexibility and a smooth, efficient stride
•Carbon rubber in the heel for maximum abrasion resistance
•Nike+ ready

PRODUCT REVIEW – Nike Lunarswift+ 3 Shield Women’s Running Shoe by Andrea R4W Forum member

Cushioning - While this shoe doesn’t look like a highly cushioned shoe it feels very comfortable and when your foot strikes it feels protected. Score 4/5

Comfort – This shoe was extremely comfortable. Even on the first run they felt snug but gave in the right places. The upper fitted around the foot well without feeling tight and because of the fixed tongue it didn’t loosen up while running. Score 5/5

Grip/Responsiveness – The grip was fine for road running but I felt slightly less confident when trail running as the grip wasn’t as good in the wet muddy conditions. However, being a slightly thinner sole than other shoes, the responsiveness was good. Score 4/5

Stability – My foot felt very stable in these shoes and they managed to get a good stable feel without feeling restricted. Score 5/5

Overall – I really liked these shoes. They didn’t feel massive on my feet like some running shoes, but they gave the stability and responsiveness which I like. I felt that my feet were doing the running, not my shoes. However, I wouldn’t use them for trail running as I didn’t feel confident that they had the required grip. Score 5/5

The Nike LunarHaze+: Dynamic Support in a nearly seamless design

The Nike LunarHaze+ Women’s Running Shoe distinguishes itself from other styles in the Stable Ride collection with an innovative, nearly seamless upper that renders it incredibly lightweight, breathable and durable.

Benefits

Best for underpronators to moderate overpronators

Strong, lightweight Nike Hyperfuse latticework for a supportive fit

Lunarlon cushioning for a soft, springy ride

Dynamic Support for just the right amount of stability

Comfort

The upper of the LunarHaze+ Women’s Running Shoe is made with Hyperfuse construction, which fuses mesh and synthetic materials to create a nearly seamless, one-piece upper that’s more lightweight, breathable and durable than traditionally stitched uppers. The Hyperfuse latticework provides a secure, supportive fit, and a mesh innersleeve wraps the entire foot for a plush, breathable fit and feel.

Cushioning

The LunarHaze+ features Lunarlon cushioning, Nike’s softest, most resilient foam core to date. The foam core is encased within a foam carrier for a lightweight blend of ultra-plush cushioning, springy response and support. A crash pad beneath the heel is made of softer foam than the rest of the carrier for extra shock absorption at this first point of impact.

Support

Runners have different strides, and one runner’s stride can vary between the first mile and the last. That’s why this stable-ride running shoe features Dynamic Support in the midsole. This platform adapts to your stride throughout each run to provide just the right amount of stability.

Additional Details

Reflective elements for enhanced visibility in low light

Outsole featuring a mix of rubbers and a Waffle pattern for durability and traction

Flex grooves along the length and width of the midsole/outsole for flexibility and a smooth transition from heel to toe

Nike+ ready

LunarLite foam is 30 percent lighter than standard Phylon and provides ultra-lightweight and springy cushioning for your foot. Encased in a Phylon or Phylite midsole, this new foam compound, invented at Nike, delivers cushioning that’s soft and not too mushy. It allows impact force to be more evenly distributed and helps reduce painful pressure points on your foot.

PRODUCT REVIEW – Nike LunarHaze+ by Carol R4W Member

CUSHIONING – Cushioning good but feel that if worm during long race might not be enough to ease feet. Score 3/5

COMFORT – Very comfortable perfect fit and for a change on trainers I wear I did not have to adjust the laces at all during runs. Score 5/5

GRIP/RESPONSIVENESS – Excellent, used in dry and damp conditions and felt very safe, very impressed. Score 5/5.

STABILITY – I overpronate slightly on the right foot but these shoes felt supportive. Score 4/5

OVERALL – A light, attractive running shoe that definitely have ‘girl’ appeal. The pink colour way really good with the prominent Nike flash. Would recommend although not sure if they would suit a runner with a wider foot as they felt quiet narrow. Score 4/5

Available from Nike

Cushioning – Well Cushioned, no pain or complaints for cushioning. Score 4/5

Comfort – Very comfortable, very light and flexible on various surfaces. . Score 5/5

Grip/Responsiveness – Ran on grass, mud, road and the grip was very good. Never slipped once. Score 5/5

Suitability – Suitable for all, not as waterproof as expected, if running through a lot of puddles – Score 4/5

Overall – I have a very broad forefoot and found them slightly narrower at the toes but no major complaints. A very comfortable, reliable shoe which does what it advertises to do. I would highly recommend these shoes. Score 4.5/5

PRODUCT REVIEW – New Balance WR860BS – A versatile road running shoe built for the runner who needs a balance between cushioning, provided by N-ERGY, and support, provided by a dual density Medial Post.

by Andrea R4W Forum Member

Cushioning - The cushioning effect was felt as soon as I put them on. They felt snug and secure without feeling hard. Score 5/5

Comfort – Nothing rubbed or jarred and my foot felt comfortable whether running, walking or playing badminton. Score 5/5

Grip/Responsiveness – Slight skid on a very muddy patch but that was probably inevitable. General grip was excellent. Score 4/5

Suitability – I used this shoe for more than running and did get a lot out of it. Being a barefoot runner at heart, perhaps it didn’t entirely meet those needs but it did prove to me that barefoot isn’t the only good way!!! – Score 5/5

OVERALL - For anyone looking for a good running trainer I would recommend this. There was a cool (but not cold) feel about them which I liked very much and my feet felt very fresh after being in the shoes. Score 5/5

PRODUCT REVIEW – New Balance WR1080CP – New Balance’s premier neutral running shoe. – by Jill R4W Member

Cushioning – These trainers have a long list of technological features and are designed to be neutral-cushioned. The chunky heels acted as great shock absorbers for heel to toe strikes, and I really felt the benefit of this whilst running on concrete paths and roads. However, for me personally there was not enough cushioning at the front of the shoes and 3 miles in to a run I began to experience pain in my toes and the balls of my feet, something I have not experienced for many years. Score 3/5

Comfort - The ‘Sure Lace’ system works well and kept the trainers on tight, fitting snugly even when I was running through mud. The insoles felt very comfortable and my feet remained cool throughout a 5 mile run. The mesh allowed air to flow through which was very refreshing. Score 5/5

Grip/Responsiveness – They were great on muddy grass, they were gripping nicely whilst my husband was slipping and sliding around! The chunky heel has a large hollow in the centre, however, which did collect a lot of mud and earth which was still there after running on concrete for 2 miles. Score 5/5

Suitability – Although these trainers are designed to offer cushioning, for me they were not quite suitable for me because of my particular running style, but if you are bit lighter on your feet than me, these could be great. Score 3/5

OVERALL - These trainers certainly look fabulous, they are stylish, with bright colours of red, blue and silver with the extra essential reflective piping which is also useful. Score 4/5

PRODUCT REVIEW – Columbia – Ravenous – Fireweed/Light Grey by Valerie – R4W member

CUSHIONING – What’s really surprising is just how cushioned and soft it feels, particularly at the heel. It really does give a much more cushioned ride than most trail-running shoes with a nice soft roll from heel to forefoot. That, combined with the airy mesh upper makes it a good hot weather shoe. Score 5/5

COMFORT – Very snug fit. Much more comfortable than my usual hard trail shoes. And if you get wet, the mesh dries very quickly! Score 5/5

GRIP/RESPONSIVENESS – The soft feel is great on even terrain, but the flexible feel underfoot is less reassuring on really rocky ground, where your foot often lands half on and half off things. I was loosing my balance at times. Score 3/5

STABILITY – The outer heel area of the shoe minimizes movement, but it also supports the heel for improved stability and fit. Score 5/5

OVERALL – The Ravenous is light, very breathable, with excellent cushioning. Also very good for hot weather running. And they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever tried! Score 5/5

PRODUCT REVIEW – Nike Womens Lunar Elite + White/Pink by Ashleigh R4W member
CUSHIONING – Good cushioning without feeling too soft. Score 4/5

COMFORT – comfortable for sport, after a while though feet felt hot, trainers not as breathable as others. Score 4/5

GRIP/RESPONSIVENESS – Excellent grip when running, feel confident with the trainers responsiveness!! Score 5/5

STABILITY – Good Stability. Score 4/5

OVERALL – Light weight yet very good for running gives excellent grip, only negative is that the trainers needs to be a little more breathable – feet felt very hot after wearing them for a while. But I would buy them!!! Score 4/5

PRODUCT REVIEW – Nike Womens Lunar Elite + White/Orange by Victoria R4W member
CUSHIONING – They felt very ‘flat’ – almost as though I was running in plimsoles! Not as much height in the heel as my regular shoe, which was made more obvious by the fact I am a heel striker. They are probably better suited to mid foot or toe strikers. Score 2/5

COMFORT – No rubbing at all, very light (80g per shoe less than my current shoe) Score 4/5

GRIP/RESPONSIVENESS -Fine for road running, not so good on off road paths and trails. And come to think of it, running in them in the rain, when the roads were greasy after the dry spell, I didn’t feel confident in their grip. Score 3/5

STABILITY – The blurb states that these are for runners with a ‘neutral gait or mild to moderate overpronation.’ I am a moderate overpronator and they were not great for me. They did not feel supportive and I would not want to wear them over long distances. Score 2/5

OVERALL – These are Marmite shoes in terms of looks! Love ‘em or hate ‘em but there is no ignoring them! I’ve avoided Nikes for years – they have become very much a fashion rather than a sports brand in my mind, so I was looking forward to seeing what these shoes were like. This was a reminder for me of why one should buy shoes from a good independent running shop. The shoes may be described as being ideal for a certain gait, but until you try them on and get on a treadmill you can’t really tell! Score 2½/5

Part 6

The clock is ticking …

There are 5 days to go and I’m in bed with flu. After six months of training, through every element, day and night, this was not part of the plan. True, we were supposed to be taking it easy this week, but this is ridiculous. I’m shaking like a leaf with a raging temperature and swollen glands. My nerves are making it worse. I have nightmares about the finish line fading away, coming to a standstill half-way across Queensborough Bridge. The brunette calls … ‘Don’tworry, we’ll be fine. Think of all those runs … they’ll pull us through. Sunday is ages away …’ Am slightly reassured. Phone rings again. The British Heart Foundation rep. ‘How’re you feeling? Have you everything you need?’ I tell her my woes, desperate for more reassurance.

Before this weekend, things had been going pretty well. We had kept to our punishing schedule, despite unbelievable work pressures and ever-darkening nights. The brunette and I had both been involved in big pitches, working until the early hours and getting up to run before dawn on a day-in, day-out basis.

The brunette announced recently she was getting bored of London! Our well-trodden paths along the Thames were suddenly a bit too familiar. The route towards Richmond Park was getting repetitive. We were having to be creative in North London … our normal circuit up Haverstock Hill and across Hampstead Heath had been extended to include Highgate Village and Kentish Town and we revelled in getting a little lost … finding ourselves in places that we hadn’t already visited.

Our last ‘long-ish’ run was a testament to how far we had come. No longer content with circling ‘a’ park, we took in five, rounding Hyde Park, St. James’s, Green Park, Regents Park and finally Primrose Hill. In total, it was about 15 miles. We felt fine.

Our conversations had also taken new directions. After six months running step-for-step, we knew every detail about each other’s lives … in that time the brunette had bought a house and I had fallen in love. I can list every purchase she has made at Ikea, the problems with her skirting boards, her plans for th ekitchen … she can detail my first dates, what I wore and where I went. We know each other’s families, their various relationships, have discussed career paths and where we want to be in 5 years time.

More recently our discussions have been more focussed … we have planned the items we are going to pack for the finish line, what is on our Big Apple shopping ‘wishlist’ and what to wear on the plane. We have allocated who will buy which magazines, bring which beauty products and sort the music selection. With so much talk focussed on the actual race, it hadn’t really dawned on either of us until this week that we are going to New York City! The excitement mounts.

The press have just announced that Paula Radcliffe has decided to re-launch her running career in NYC. Cue quips from well-meaning supporters about overtaking her at 22 miles. Suddenly the BBC decide they are going to televise the event – Eek!

There are 5 days to go. We will be ready. We have to be ready. There is no backing out now. I reach across for the pile of flu capsules, vitamins and lucozade tablets. Its all in the mind.

15miles. 1 hour, 55 minutes. 1,000 calories.
