Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction
Question:
Whilst I was pregnant (my son is 18 months old now), I had sever SPD and was on crutches from 22 weeks. I’m keen to loose the weight I gained whilst pregnant and get to a good level of fitness, having tried to start a short running program (walk 3 minutes, run for 1 minute repeat 4 times) I find that I suffer sever pain from my pelvis and hips after. This pain can often last a couple of days and can make walking difficult. Could you please let me know if this could be related to the SPD still or most likely be caused by something else and advise me on my best course of action.
Thanks
Amy
Answer:
Dear Amy,
I would recommend that you make an appointment to see a sports physiotherapist for an assessment and advice on specific core stability exercises. You may well have weakness of your deep abdominal muscles. I would suggest you discontinue running whilst you are still experiencing symptoms.
