Running Gloves

As Winter (slowly!) turns to Spring, it’s time to think about your running kit. Out go the heavy base layers and waterproof jackets, but in come those items which help you weather the transition between seasons.

Let’s start with your hands: You can spend under £10 and still get a great choice of well-designed, effective lightweight running gloves. What to think about:

Visibility: Choose bright colours and/or reflective panels to help you stay visible in low spring light.

Lightweight: Choose thin, light gloves which won’t make you overheat.

Extras: Do you need clips, pockets or fold-back fingers (so you can use a touchscreen)?

Kalenji running gloves, from Decathlon cost little more than a fiver but are great for seeing you through fresh Spring runs. They’re warm but lightweight and keep you protected against temperatures as low as 0*C. £5.99

They wash well and dry quickly, and come in a range of bright colours to help with visibility in low light (and to brighten up your running outfit). Nike’s lightweight tech running gloves are stylish in grey and lime, with Nike’s typical great design: the gloves have a small pocket and even a touch-screen compatible thumb so you can use your phone or other devices without removing them. Made from Dri-FIT fabric, they’ll help manage moisture as well as temperature. £15

Brooks Pulse Lite Gloves are great at regulating temperature, so your hands stay warm without overheating. They’re lightweight and high-vis, a great choice for low light conditions. They feature a fold-back thumb design so you can use your phone or mp3 player. £19.99

Adidas Climacool gloves are made from heat reactive fabric to keep your hands (and therefore the rest of you) at just the right temperature. Carefully designed with a longer wrist-cuff and curved fingers, they fit… like a glove. With their reflective panels, they’ll help you stay visible, too. £10.50
