Post Injury Training

Question:

Hi
I fell off my bike and broke my collarbone, which has been pinned back together again with a few bits of metal. I’m raring to go again after four months off (and a few missed races) but  I’m not sure where to start. Before my accident, I regularly ran, cycled and lifted weights.  I have access to the gym and the classes they hold are varied. Any suggestions on a routine to ease me back in, whilst getting my upper
body strength back?

Clair

Answer:

Dear Clair,

Providing you have full range pain-free movement of your shoulder following the injury to your collar bone, there is no reason why you cannot resume cycling and running. I would recommend consulting your local physiotherapist for appropriate strengthening exercises for your shoulderb efore going to the gym.

Kind regards
