PRODUCT REVIEW – New Balance WR1080CP – New Balance’s premier neutral running shoe. – by Jill R4W Member

Cushioning – These trainers have a long list of technological features and are designed to be neutral-cushioned. The chunky heels acted as great shock absorbers for heel to toe strikes, and I really felt the benefit of this whilst running on concrete paths and roads. However, for me personally there was not enough cushioning at the front of the shoes and 3 miles in to a run I began to experience pain in my toes and the balls of my feet, something I have not experienced for many years. Score 3/5

Comfort – The ‘Sure Lace’ system works well and kept the trainers on tight, fitting snugly even when I was running through mud. The insoles felt very comfortable and my feet remained cool throughout a 5 mile run. The mesh allowed air to flow through which was very refreshing. Score 5/5

Grip/Responsiveness – They were great on muddy grass, they were gripping nicely whilst my husband was slipping and sliding around! The chunky heel has a large hollow in the centre, however, which did collect a lot of mud and earth which was still there after running on concrete for 2 miles. Score 5/5

Suitability – Although these trainers are designed to offer cushioning, for me they were not quite suitable for me because of my particular running style, but if you are bit lighter on your feet than me, these could be great. Score 3/5

OVERALL –  These trainers certainly look fabulous, they are stylish, with bright colours of red, blue and silver with the extra essential reflective piping which is also useful. Score 4/5
