Just Starting Running
Question:
Hi
I have just started running and just joined your website looking for tips. I have read lots on the importance of stretching and strength training as I understand running does not workout all your muscles. Which muscles does it not workout and which do I need to concentrate on?
Thanks very much.
Answer:
Dear Emma,
Running is great for cardiovascular fitness and toning legs but it obviously has limited impact on the upper body, so you may wish to do some light weight-training for your arms. Core stability exercises or Pilates are a great complimentary exercise for runners as they help to improve your control of your postural muscles. Long term this will improve the efficiency of your running.
