Joint Pain
Question:
Hi,
I completed my first half marathon yesterday. Surprisingly it wasn’t my cardio fitness that let me down but my joints. My knees and my hips started hurting after about 8 miles and today (the day after) I can’t walk properly. Is this ‘joint fitness’ something that will improve as I train more? I’m registered for another half marathon in October and would like to improve my time.

Answer:
Dear Abbey,
Sounds like you would benefit from some lower limb strength exercises such as squats and lunges to improve your gluteal and quadriceps strength. Book a consultation with a sports physiotherapist for some more specific advice.
