Running and Knee Pain

Question:

Hi,
I have just started running but find, after about a mile I feel a warm sensation at the back of my right knee which travels around to the outer side of my knee and continues to the front. Even if walking, this is very painful and it takes a long time for it to subside. Can you tell me what it is or how I can control this problem? I do find that my big toe often crosses over my next toe when I run. Could this be causing the problem?

Joanne

Answer:

Dear Joanne,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to give you a diagnosis of your symptoms without seeing you. I would recommend that you make an appointment to see a sports physiotherapist for a full assessment. With a full examination, they will be able to give you an idea of the cause of your symptoms and also prescribe the appropriate treatment.
In the meantime, I would recommend that you discontinue running to reduce the risk of doing yourself further harm.

Kind regards
