Windsor 8K - First time!!
Hi there, I'm new(ish) to running, Ive done a few 5Ks but thats my limit so far. I'M doing the Windsor 8K on Saturday and am very nervous about the whole thing. Can anyone give me any hints and tips about the course and also for ways to control my nerves!!!
Thanks

All I can say is that you're not the only one - I'm in the same boat! I am travelling up the day before from Cambridgeshire as it's quite a long train journey. Just got back from holiday today and received my race info. As it's my first 'proper' race, (other than one Race For Life), I have no idea what I'm doing!! I presume the electronic tag is the thing attached to the race number, and that there won't be a separate one for our shoes? I'm sure these things get easier with experience and that all newbies feel the same way but I'm very nervous too!

First timer too!!! Nervous but excited to. Travelling up from Northamptonshire that morning but stopping overnight. Have done several race for life before and one other 10k.

Oh glad to hear I'm not the only nervous one. Yes the timer tag is that thing on the back of your number and you dont get anything else for your shoes. Its all taken from that tag on your number (I think). Ive no idea why I get so nervous but by the time I get to the start line Ive used up all my adrenaline and I've got no energy left! I feel such a whimp!

You'll all be fine. The trick is to enjoy it. It doesn't matter if you decide that you can't run it all and have to walk some of it as long as you get to the finish line. I'm going to go for it on the day and hopefully I'll come in just under 45 minutes. Lets hope it's not raining! Does anyone know where it starts from?

Hi Ladies, No need to worry there will be lots of ladies all in the same situation. Yes the race number has the bib tag attached to the back and this is your timing device its new for this year. Please come and say hello to me in the Running4Women Marquee and ask any question.
Look forward to seeing you all and good luck to everyone.

Hi Ladies, I am a newbie too and I'm doing the 8K in Windsor on Saturday! I've only been running for about 5 months, and this is the first time I've done a race ever - so it's nice to know there are plenty of you in the same boat as me! Good Luck to you all - lets hope we get nice weather and all enjoy the day and hopefully make new friends! :-)

hi ladies, iv been jog/walking for a while im not really at a stage to call myself a runner yet in may i did the edingburgh half marathon which while hard i completed in 3hrs im now running saterday with some freinds for www.helppingharry.net cause and have been training but am expecting to be slow as my practise 8k's havent been so good time wise! windsor race begins with the big hill im afraid but then goes all around the park my understanding is that if you need to walk some of it then its no big deal! so dont worry we are all in it together! :) im gunna run as much as i can and id like to be under the hour mark but will see how it goes! :) at edingburgh(my only experiance of races previously sorry) it was a very freindly atmosphere if you expect to be slow then start at the back (you will see me near by! hehe!) as that allows the faster runners to get going first and stops hold ups. the course info is all in the race pack you should now have your race number has the chip included in it so you just need to safety pin it onto your top. make sure yoou have fun and pace yourself i found last race i got so caught up in the beggining that i ran to long to fast then was shattered later, so try and keep an even pace! :) mostly have fun! :) another thing a freind told me was to carry a few jelly beans with me as its an instant sugery energy hit when you need it :) see you all saterday girls! xxxx

I believe the race starts along the Long Walk, and yes, I think it's a bit of a hill for the first 1k. Eek! That's the part I'm a bit apprehensive about. I have now run 8K in training in 55 minutes so I hope to be a bit quicker than that on the day but just to finish would be good!! Enjoy and see you all Saturday. x
