Introducing Myself!

Hi Guys. I am a running newbie!. I already walk a lot and train in Martial Arts but running is new. I have agreed to run a 10k next year with family so I have just bought all the running basics to get me started. Today I did a 20 min run and enjoyed it, however I am now to embark on a 'Run 10k in 8 week running plan'. I'm looking forward to talking to you all. :0) xx

Thanks Joanne I will do. Today is the start of my 8 week plan & it is 'rest day' so I'm really looking forward to my run tomorrow as I can't wait to get out there again. Runners have just gone past my house! jealous! Lol, but I will be good as I know how important rest days are and I need to start the plan how I mean to go on! :0)

    Hi Joanne

Well, I have nearly finished week 1 of my 10k plan. I did my running on Tues & Thurs (lapping a field) & did my fitness kickboxing classes Wednesday & Friday (today). This week has seen me running 15 mins rest two and run another 15 mins. Thursday felt harder but I suppose it makes sense after a few cross training sessions I also made myself run through a killer stitch on Thursday but it felt great when I had finished!. On Sunday the plan states I should be able to run a full 30 mins with no break!, hopefully I will be able to as I have just bought some earphones for runners for my Ipod that SHOULD stay in & the music hopefully will take my mind off it!. I have a 'Rest Day' tomorrow so going to the seaside to visit family and then I am looking forward to Sundays run!.

P.s I also have two friends taking place in the GNR which are inspiring me at the moment!

After meeting up with my In laws today, my Father In Law who used to be a big runner told me not to concentrate on times at the moment and just just set off steady tomorrow so I am able to last the full 30 mins. I shall have my Nike App on to make sure I run 30 mins exactly & see how far I have run but try not listen to the time then I think! Lol. :0)

P.S- Then home to watch the GNR!

Hi All,  tut i'd noted it down wrong Sun was to run 2miles continously (after training all week 2x15 mins run with a 1-3 min break) but I didn't worry about times and ran it fine and was chuffed not to stop. On my plan you run with small breaks all week and then have a continous run at the end of the week which all increases.

Today was completely different the heavy rain meant for the first time ever I had to do a road run instead of lapping my usual field and this week (week 2) I have to run 18 mins- rest 1-3mins & run 18 mins. I was a little bit dubious about the change but I loved the variety and change of  scenery and found it made me run differently. I felt fine after the first 18 mins so only had the 1 min rest plus it was near a big hill!. I didn't even check my times per mile but was really chuffed when I stopped the run after 36.18 secs mins and I had run  3.60 miles (10'04 mins pm)! I know its not a true time as I obviously stopped & restarted the timer after my minute rest and ran down a big hill but still I'm very happy with that, felt great and had a real sense of achievement think road running may be for me!.

    Hi Furny,

keep on with the training and keep feeling good about yourself. You are right: don't worry about times just do your training programme and you will find that you gradually become fitter and faster. Remember there are no Gold Sliver or Bronze medals for training sessions!

    Thanks Joanne

I had an even better run yesterday running the 36mins run (2 x18 mins with 1 min rest) even though I wasn't sure how I would feel as I had trained hard at kickboxing the day before. I wasn't looking but realised I had smashed my times again!. I stuck to a road run as I'm enjoying it. I'm finding once I settle in to a run now I'm getting a good  comfortable pace and my breathing relaxes.  I'm so enjoying my running at the moment and looking forward to my three mile continous run on Sunday to end week 2 of my plan.
