Would you like somebody to run with? It certainly makes training a lot easier and far more social than running on your own. Running4Women has developed a new feature, Find a Running Partner, which will enable you to easily find other members who live and run near to you and who are also looking for company.

Here’s how it works:

1. First things first. In order for your profile to be displayed in the Training Partner Finder, you will need to fill in the Town/City location field in your profile settings.

Make sure that you keep ticked the “Display my location” box and remember to save your settings.

2. Now go to the Training Partner Finder. You can either look for members on a map or have them displayed as a list. Type in a town/city location and select a search radius to find other members who live near you.

3. Once you have found someone that lives near you that you would like to contact, click on the link to that person’s profile and send them a Message requesting to go running together in the personal message box.

4. When the person you have contacted has agreed to be your running partner, you can then swap details and arrange to meet up for a run.  We would strongly advise against putting mobile/telephone numbers or house numbers publicly on the site and will remove any such details that are brought to our attention. This feature is intended to be used by members who are over 18 years of age.

Why not start a running group in your area?

Once you have paired up with another member, why not set up a running group on Running4Women – it’s the easiest way for you and your friends to find each other on the site, share stories or photos and to see how you compare on your very own running leaderboard!  If you would like to set up a running group, please send us a message via the Helpdesk link at the bottom of the website and we’ll be happy to set one up for you.

Here’s an example of a running group that’s already been set up – 10k Training Group.

While it only takes two of you to start a group you will probably find that your group will grow, not just with members of Running4women but by inviting your friends, family and neighbours to join in too – the more the merrier!

This is when it gets exciting; you can organise all sorts of things as a group including the occasional running event, social activities etc. With more and more R4W groups being formed around the country the opportunity to meet up with various groups at social occasions organised by R4W becomes a distinct possibility.

All groups as they grow will need to have a Leader, Organiser or Coordinator to help develop the group, Running4Women encourages this and has a range of tools available to enable this person grow into the role - an Ambassador for Running4women. If you would like more information, please email editor@running4women.com.

These groups are open to everyone no matter what level of runner they are. In the beginning not everyone needs to be a Member of Running4Women, but as it is absolutely free to join it seems rather pointless not to become a member particularly with the benefits of the Running4Women Training Diary/Mobile App and the setting up of your own group within the site.
