Creaky Knees

Question:

I have a varied fitness regime including aerobics classes & resistance training. I have built up my treadmill running in the gym over the last couple of years and recently started doing 40 minute sessions. However, one of my knees has since started making a horrible creaking noise e.g. when I am walking upstairs or after bending down. There is no pain so I haven’t been to my GP. I so love my running & don’t want to have to give up! I was wondering whether it was worth buying a support but would appreciate some advice as to the possible causes and whether it will improve?
Many thanks,
Jane

Answer:

Dear Jane,

You may simply have some muscle tightness which require stretching.
Your gym should have foam rollers which you can use as self-massaging aids on the sides of your thigh, quads and hamstrings.

If your symptoms persist then I would recommend you consult a sports physiotherapist for assessment and treatment.

Yours sincerely
